Types of Safety Coveralls

FR Coveralls (Fire Retardant Coveralls)

FR coveralls are made from flame-retardant fabric that self-extinguishes when the flame source is removed. This limits burn injuries during flash fires, welding and hot work. Fire retardant coveralls are standard PPE on oil & gas sites, refineries, foundries and power plants. Our Pyroxel 260 gsm FR coverall suits daily wear on sites with fire risk.

Chemical-Resistant FR Coveralls

Where workers face both flame and chemical splash, such as in petrochemical plants, a dual-protection garment is needed. The Gladious CHEM+FR coverall combines chemical resistance and flame resistance in a single safety coverall.

Cotton Coveralls

Cotton coveralls are the most breathable option for hot GCC summers. They protect against dirt, grease and minor abrasion, and suit mechanics, technicians and maintenance teams. Cotton coveralls are not flame resistant unless they are specifically FR-treated.

Poly-Cotton Work Coveralls

Poly-cotton (65/35) coveralls are stronger, hold their colour longer and dry faster than pure cotton. That makes them the most cost-effective work coveralls for large workforces that wash garments often.

Reflective Coveralls

Coveralls with reflective tape improve visibility for road work, ports, warehouses and night shifts. The Ameriza Chief C Tapes model includes reflective tape as standard.

Disposable Coveralls

Disposable coveralls are single-use suits for dust, fibres, paint spray and light chemical splash. They are used in painting, tank cleaning, asbestos work, cleanrooms and food processing. See our full disposable coveralls range.

Inherent FR vs Treated FR Coveralls

Not all flame resistant coveralls are made the same way:

  • Inherent FR (IFR) – the flame resistance is built into the fibre itself (aramid, modacrylic and similar blends). Protection lasts for the life of the garment and does not wash out.
  • Treated FR – cotton or cotton-blend fabric treated with a flame-retardant chemical. It costs less but must be washed correctly to keep its protection.

For daily wear in high-risk areas, inherent FR is the longer-term investment. For budget-sensitive projects, quality treated FR cotton remains widely used.

Coverall GSM Guide: Which Weight Do You Need?

GSM (grams per square metre) tells you the fabric weight:

GSM Feel Best for
150–200 Light, cool Hot climates, indoor work
220–260 Medium All-round site wear
280–350 Heavy, durable Heavy industry, foundries, winter

In GCC heat, most site workers prefer coveralls between 200 and 260 GSM, which balances protection and comfort.

  • Elastic waist and action back – give freedom of movement when bending and lifting.
  • Pockets – chest, leg and back pockets for tools, pens and phones.
  • Adjustable cuffs – snap or Velcro cuffs keep sleeves secure near machinery.
